How the vacation countdown works
Enter the day your vacation begins. The big number is how many calendar days are left, and the exact countdown underneath runs to midnight at the start of that day in your time zone. Add a destination and the result reads “Your Hawaii vacation is in 42 days!”
Is the first day of your vacation really a Friday evening after work? The date still counts from midnight, so you'll have a few bonus hours to wait on the day.
Why counting down helps
Looking forward to a trip is part of the fun. Watching the number shrink gives you something to glance at on a long week, and the weeks figure turns a vague “sometime in summer” into a concrete amount of time to plan with.
What to sort out, by time left
- Two months or more: confirm time off, check that passports are valid for your whole trip (some countries require several months of validity beyond your travel dates), and look into visas or entry forms.
- A month out: book activities, restaurants, and airport transfers that sell out. Check whether you need travel insurance.
- One to two weeks out: arrange pet or plant care, tell your bank if needed, and set up an out-of-office message.
- The last few days: check the weather, pack, download maps and tickets for offline use, and check in for flights.
