How the trip countdown works
Enter the day you leave. The big number shows calendar days until departure, and the exact countdown runs to midnight at the start of that day, in the time zone you're in now. Add a destination and the result reads “Your trip to Tokyo is in 30 days!”
Flying across time zones? The countdown is about when you leave, so it uses your current time zone. Your arrival may be on a different calendar day.
A travel-day checklist, counted down
| Time left | Worth checking |
|---|---|
| 3 months or more | Passport expiry and blank pages, visas or travel authorizations, vaccinations for your destination |
| 1 month | Seat selection, travel insurance, whether your phone plan works abroad |
| 1 week | Baggage allowance, how you're getting to the airport or station, local currency or cards |
| 1–2 days | Online check-in (many airlines open it 24 to 48 hours before departure), boarding passes, chargers |
| Travel day | Leave with plenty of time for security, especially on international flights |
Requirements change and depend on your passport and destination, so always check the official government and airline sources for your trip.
Trips with more than one date
The countdown tracks one date at a time. For a multi-stop trip, make a countdown for each leg and share each link: the date and destination are saved in the link itself (after the #, which isn't sent to our server), so bookmarking them works too.
Share your trip countdown
Use Share this countdown to send it to whoever you're traveling with or visiting. For a holiday rather than a journey, the vacation countdown focuses on getting ready for time off. Traveling for a graduation? See the graduation countdown.
