How the deadline countdown works

Enter what's due, the date, and, if the deadline has one, the time. The result reads like “Grant application is due in 5 days!” The big number counts calendar days. With a time added, the exact countdown underneath runs to that time instead of midnight, so on the last day you'll see the hours and minutes you really have left.

Times are in your own time zone. If a deadline is set somewhere else, such as “5:00 PM Eastern” when you're in California, convert it first and enter your local time, or you could be three hours short.

What people count down to

Working back from the deadline

The weeks figure is the one to plan with. Break the work into stages and give each one a date: a first draft, a review, a final check. A few habits that help:

Share it with your team

Share this countdown creates a link with the name, date, and time built in, so everyone on a project sees the same number, and the link preview shows how many days are left. Nothing you type is stored. Once the deadline passes, the countdown shows how many days ago it was due.

Studying rather than submitting? Try the exam countdown. For anything else with a date and time, the event countdown works the same way.
